Will contests in Pennsylvania are filed as appeals from the Register of Wills' grant of probate, under 20 Pa.C.S. § 908. The grounds and timing are strict.
Grounds
Lack of testamentary capacity, undue influence, fraud, forgery, improper execution, or revocation by a later valid will.
Standing
Only a person who would inherit either under intestacy or under a prior will can contest. Strangers cannot.
Timeline
An appeal must be filed within one year of the grant of letters, or within three months if formal notice is given to the contestant.
