Anatomical Gifts in Pennsylvania

By Sean Quinlan, Esq. · Updated January 15, 2025

Pennsylvania's version of the Uniform Anatomical Gift Act (20 Pa.C.S. Chapter 86) gives individuals the right to direct organ, tissue, and body donation.

How to register

Driver's license / ID heart symbol, the Donate Life PA registry, an advance directive provision, or a will.

Family override

Pennsylvania does not allow family to override a registered donor decision. But practical disputes still happen at the hospital bedside — discuss with family in advance.

Whole-body donation

Programs like Humanity Gifts Registry of Pennsylvania accept whole-body donations for medical education. Pre-registration required.
